A Mother’s Hope, A Daughter’s Voice

Impact Report; childhood hunger - A Mother’s Hope, A Daughter’s Voice

When Mrs. Haddad arrived in New York, she bore the weight of uncertainty and the daunting challenge of feeding a family. She spoke no English and, so, every trip to the grocery store felt impossible. With her daughter Lina translating and learning to order groceries online through Market by Met Council, the Haddads discovered a system that honored their dignity and met their cultural needs.

So we saw some sharks…

Our incredible shark adventure started out with some weather delays but once we got on-site, there was plenty of shark action.

Jelly, jelly, jelly

What can we say about jellyfish? These squishy, jellylike creatures pulse along on
ocean currents and are abundant in both cold and warm ocean water, in deep water, and along
coastlines. They have no blood, brains, or a heart yet they are still an invertebrate.

Sharks are not evil, senseless killers

It is estimated that 100 million sharks are killed by humans every year, that is about 200 sharks
per minute, 3 sharks a second. Humans are driving sharks to the brink of extinction at
unsustainable rates. By removing sharks from the ocean we threaten a much wider diversity of
life.

All-time best experience

I can’t even properly explain what we experienced on this trip, we saw so much sea life, it wastruly incredible. The Great Barrier reef trip is the way to experience this world wonder.Almost three months have passed since our grand adventure with MAR, and a day hasn’tpassed where we don’t talk about the amazing time […]

Octopuses – aliens among us!

Known for their otherworldly, alienish look and incredible intelligence, octopuses
continue to reveal astonishing qualities, abilities and behaviors.

Shark Finning

Our apex predators, like sharks, play a critical role in regulating the eco-system – and they need our help! Many sharks are brutally slaughtered every day due to the inhuman process of finning. A third of shark species are already threatened with extinction.

We have a plastic problem

Our oceans are facing growing challenges from pollution, habitat loss, development, and climate change.

Climate change

Climate change is making oceans hotter, promoting acidification, and making it harder for marine life to breathe by reducing dissolved oxygen levels. We can reduce our own carbon footprint and help decelerate climate change by making smart choices about what we eat and how we travel.
